Edward has once again joined pie makers and bakers at the British Pie Awards celebration lunch held in Melton Mowbray's St Mary's Church, where the 2026 winners were announced.
The British Pie Awards, which have been run by Matthew O'Callaghan and the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association since 2009, are held in Melton Mowbray, the Rural Capital of Food, every year, and are a fantastic celebration of British pies of all varieties, and pie-making from around the country. Their aim is to celebrate the heritage of that food icon, the British Pie; to protect and promote regional specialities; to recognise the craft of bakers, butchers and other producers; and to support British produce.
Edward said: "The competition for the hugely prestigious British Pie Awards prizes, as was the case last year, was incredibly fierce, with a vast number of entries, whittled down by the judges to an eventual winner in each category of the awards. As a nation we eat millions of pies every year, worth over £1billion in total, and these awards, hosted locally in Melton Mowbray, the Rural Capital of Food and home of the world-famous Melton Mowbray pork pie, saw people once again travelling from up and down the country to enter and attend the awards
As always, I want to pay huge tribute to Matthew O'Callaghan and the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association for a fantastic event and for all the work that goes into the Awards, which are so important to the industry but also to our town of Melton Mowbray. I also want to congratulate everyone who entered the Awards, and to all those who won awards, particularly to the winners of the 'Supreme Champion Pie of Pies' Award, the Chicken Kiev Pie made by Baldy's Pies of Wigan."
