Edward has met with the British Heart Foundation (BHF), and their Chief Executive Dr Charmaine Griffiths, at their event in Parliament to mark Heart Month and the publication of their new report on cardiovascular disease (CVD), and to discuss the urgent need to further improve the UK’s cardiovascular care.
Over the past six decades, the UK has made huge strides in improving outcomes for people living with heart and circulatory diseases. However, this progress must be maintained, with recent BHF analysis suggesting that the premature death rate from cardiovascular disease in the UK has risen to the highest level in over a decade. Organised by the BHF, the event this week saw Edward and MPs from across the political spectrum meet with heart patients and charities to discuss what more can be done to build on the work done so far, and further improve the country’s heart health and save more lives from cardiovascular disease.
Edward commented: “It was a pleasure to join the British Heart Foundation at their event, where they highlighted what more they believe can be done to tackle cardiovascular disease, one of the UK’s biggest killers. The BHF do fantastic work, on what is a hugely important issue, with cardiovascular disease affecting many people in all of our local communities in Melton and Syston. While progress has been made in recent years, there’s still more to do to address long waits for time-sensitive care, while powering research and innovation to find future cures, and I look forward to meeting with the BHF again in the coming months.”
