Edward has joined crowds of people at a Melton Mowbray summer fixture, ‘PieFest’ and ‘SpiritsFest at the Stockyard in the town for its 2026 event.
As in previous years this great event saw traders and producers showcase and sell their fantastic produce, with talks and demonstrations by experts in the Pie Theatre on different aspects of pie-making and the history of pies. This annual event attracts visitors from far and wide to Melton Mowbray, helping to highlight our town's importance as the Rural Capital of Food, but also bringing visitors and shoppers into the town, and helping remind everyone of the central role agriculture and food production play in our local rural economy, but also in our country's economy and food security.
Edward said: “PieFest & SpiritsFest was as always a great day out, but as I have highlighted in previous years, that events like PieFest & SpiritsFest are such a huge success is down to the dedicated team of people who work so hard to stage them, and the people who take stands for their produce at them, and I want to pay tribute to them all. As with all these great events, focussed on food and drink that bring so many to Melton, I particularly want to pay tribute to the organizer, Matthew O’Callaghan, who over the years has done so much to promote and to protect Melton’s local food products & Melton’s place in our national life as the Rural Capital of Food, and who continues to do so.”
