Overhead powerlines and pylons

National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) have put forward proposals to upgrade the Grid, with its Weston Marsh to East Leicestershire Transmissions Connection Project proposing a new 400,000 volt overhead powerline and pylons from Lincolnshire across the east of the Melton borough, through picturesque and productive countryside, to a new proposed substation near Wartnaby and Saxelbye.

While details are, at this stage, still relatively limited, as Melton's local MP, Edward has called on representatives from NGET to meet with him to provide more details of what they are proposing, and the process that will be followed, as a first step so that greater clarity can be provided over potential impacts and implications locally.

Edward said: "Ensuring our energy infrastructure is resilient and able to meet consumers' demands is essential, but these proposals come with potentially significant impacts on local residents, communities, and the countryside to the east and north of Melton Mowbray, so as a first step it is important NGET meet with me as Melton's local MP to provide more information about what they are putting forward."
