Syston Brook

Edward has met with members of Syston's Flood Action Group to catch up with them on priorities for 2026, to build on the work that was done last year by the Environment Agency to clear the central section of the brook, and the amazing work done by Flood Group volunteers, and to see what, as Syston's local MP, he can do to help further this year.

Good progress was made last year, following the dreadful floods in early January, both in terms of clearing and improving the flow of the brook, but also of the town being better prepared for future floods, but there is always more that can be done to further reduce flood risk locally, and it is important that everyone, local councillors, the Environment Agency, LCC, STW, Syston Town Council, the Flood Action Group and local residents all continue to work collaboratively to drive further improvements.

Edward commented: "It was a pleasure to meet with members of Syston's Flood Action Group, who have done so much to help press for action on flood risk, but also have themselves contributed to reducing it, to discuss the progress that we'd collectively made as a community last year, and the priorities for 2026 to build on that progress, recognising that we can never be complacent about the risk posed by flooding locally. Just as in 2025, as Syston's local MP I look forward to continuing to work with the whole community to help drive forward further improvements."
